Those who stutter are not stupid!

Many people treat a stutterer as if he had no brains. It is believed that the I.Q. of the average stutterer is normal or above normal. It is hard when your brain works just fine but you have a hard time getting your thoughts verbalized. Those in my family who improved their speech after much practice, were so happy to finally be able to say what they wanted without substituting words, without stuttering through a word, or without being a silent member of a conversation. People started treating them much differently.
